Patrizia Pallaro

Biography

A California and Maryland licensed psychotherapist, a nationally registered dance/movement therapist, and a registered clinical psychologist and psychotherapist in Italy, Patrizia Pallaro holds:

  • A doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Padua (1983, Italy)
  • A Master’s of Arts in Dance/Movement Therapy from UCLA (1987)
  • A certificate in Non-Profit Human Services Administration from San Francisco State University (1993)
  • A certificate in Object Relations Theory and Practice from The International Institute of Object Relations Therapy (IIORT) Chevy Chase, MD (2002).

Formerly director of a psychiatric residential and day treatment program in San Francisco and faculty member at John F. Kennedy University’s Transpersonal and Holistic Counseling Center in Oakland, Patrizia has an extensive background in mental health, counseling and partial hospitalization philosophy. She is a faculty member of the dance/movement therapy program at Art Therapy Italiana, a postgraduate training school in Bologna, Italy and a Fellow of the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI, formerly IIORT).

A native Italian, Patrizia Pallaro is bilingual with experience in cross-cultural and acculturation issues, which she applies in her private practice. She works with families, couples and individuals, integrating authentic movement principles into her practice as tools for understanding inner processes and bodily-felt experiences. She also runs Authentic Movement groups in her private practice in Bowie, Maryland.

A writer and editor, Patrizia Pallaro’s articles have appeared in numerous scholarly journals, in English and Italian. She has compiled and edited two volumes on Authentic Movement, published by Jessica Kingsley. She has served on volunteer boards and is currently on the editorial advisory panels of several academic publications.
